As I said it's really simple but I absolutely love mine and it's so super warm!

Refashion your Denims, What I got up to This Week!

Okay ,today I'm sharing the simple yet effective Denim Refashions

I did this week!

The first refashion I did was on a favourite pair of jeans.

What I used for this:

Matching coloured embroidery thread
Scissors
A large needle

Being a rather short figured person I need to take most of my jeans up. The problem though with taking jeans up is that if they have a nice finish on the bottom leg seam you lose it when you cut off the extra length of the jeans. I wore my shortened jeans for a while but the unfinished look isn't my style. To make them look better and finished I got some embroidery thread that matched the thread used in the rest of the jeans, a large needle and did two simple straight stitches along the bottom of the jeans.

Note: I split the embroidery thread in half so that I only used

three strands of thread for the stitch and not all six.

The next refashion I did was to add a little something special

to one of my favourite and comfy denim skirts

while also adding a bit more length to it.

What I used for This:

Matching cotton lace (or you could use a contrasting colour)
Scissors
Sewing machine set for regular straight stitch

(you could also hand stitch if you don’t have a machine)

I firstly picked a I thought would match the denim colour so it wouldn't look like

a tack on job but add something special.

The lace I used had a pre-done non fray edge so it was very simple to sew on.

I folded one end of the lace over and ironed it down. I then pinned it in place starting with the folded end.

Note: make sure that the unfinished side of the folded lace will be on the inside of the skirt.

Once the lace was pinned in place I set my sewing machine to a comfortable

straight stitch setting and sewed on the lace.

When I had sewed to the end I cut away the extra lace leaving just enough lace

to finish this end the same as the other end, folding it in.

For the last step I sewed the two folded ends down making it look properly finished

while also ensuring it will not fray on the ends.

Well now you know a little of what I got up to in my sewing room this week.

Work Vest Refashion

Hi all,

First off let me say sorry for the random times and days that some of my recent blog posts have come out!
The Internet of late has not been very reliable, therefore, I am getting the blog posts out when ever I can. (when there's Internet to post them)

With that said, This weeks post is a little sneak peek at how I turned my

Queensland Op-shop find into a stylish work vest!

While I was travelling in Queensland I picked up a black vest at a Op-shop that I thought would be just what I needed for a work vest. But, Unfortunately it must have been a company vest because it had a company logo/name embroidered on the front of it. Well the vest was a good fit and price so I bought it and decided to take up the challenge of refashioning it into something special when I got back home.Well, when I got back from holidays I got straight into it and here's how I did it.

The Original Vest

Firstly I needed something to cover the company name so I searched for ideas through my fabrics and embellishments.After looking through all my embellishments and coming out with nothing that would cover the whole company name I came out with a piece of leftover fabric from an apron

I had made for a girlfriend of mine.

I cut out one of the flowers from the fabrics pattern and sewed it over the old company logo/name leaving about a centimetre from the edge of the fabric ( I'll tell you why I did this in a second).

I them got some black embroidery thread and embroidered around each section of the flower to make it stand out and look like it belonged on the vest.

To finish it off I got a pin and frayed around the edge of the flower patch.

( the reason I left a centimetre from the edge is so I could fray it)

I quick Selfie before heading to work!

I love my refashioned vest and I have worn it to work every one since refashioning it.

Vests are such a great idea because they keep your body warm while not making your

arms to bulky when your trying to get work done!

Long Sleeve Tee to a 3/4, Quick and Easy Tutorial

Being a 'get in there and do it' sort of person, I have often found myself pulling up my long sleeves before I get into something. I end up with stretched sleeves and wrinkles at my elbows.

To help solve this problem, and not get too cold by wearing a short sleeve shirt, I adopted the 3/4 tee into my wardrobe. They are just brilliant for everyday get it done wear, as well as looking a little dressier for special occasions. I have found I wear 3/4 tees more and more and have decided to refashion some of my long sleeves to 3/4 tee's.

So today for my blog post I'm happy to present the long sleeve tee to 3/4 tee tutorial.

What You Will Need:

Long Sleeve Tee
Measuring Tape/Ruler
Scissors/Pinking Sheers
(Extra: 3/4 tee to use as a guide)

Take your long sleeve and lay it down flat, Try and get all the wrinkles out of it.

Fold it in half long ways so both sleeves meet. (Sleeve on top of sleeve)

Once again make sure everything is smoothed out and that both sleeves fit perfectly on top of each other. When you cut them together later on you want both sleeves to be the same length.

If you have a 3/4 tee already that you like the length of, fold it in half also and place it on top of your folded long sleeve as a guide. Make sure the armpit and top of the shoulder are in the same place on both tees. If you don't have a 3/4 tee to use as a guide, just skip this step.

Take your measuring tape/ruler and measure from the end of the long sleeve to the end of your 3/4 tee sleeve, or to the length of 3/4 sleeve you would like to have. Now take away a few centimetres to allow for a double folded hem. (See Picture below)

Take your scissors/pinking sheers and cut along your pinned line.

Turn your new 3/4 tee inside out and fold about a centimetre up and then fold the same up again creating a hem.

Pin your hem line in place and finish it off by sewing a line of straight stitch on your sewing machine to to create a new hemmed finish to your sleeve or you could hand sew to finish it instead.

And there you have it, you've turned an long sleeve tee into a 3/4 tee.

It's really easy and I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Go and have fun with this idea and

Arm Knitting Tutorial

Hi all, today I'm going to share one of my favourite DIY Ideas, Arm Knitting!

As you know I love scarves and about 3 months ago I came upon a tutorial showing how you can knit an infinity scarf in approx 30 mins using your arms instead of needles. I gave it a try, loved it and now I'm sharing it with you.

I hope you find the tutorial below helpful, if you still need some pointers look up arm knitting on Youtube and you will find heaps more tutorials and helps.

What you will need:

Thick or chunky yarn/wool
Your Arms
Scissors

Helpful Tips

On your first try don't expect perfection, keep at it

The length of your starting tail can vary depending on how wide you want your scarf

Try and keep all your stitches even

If you use more than one strand make sure you don't drop a stitch

Handy Tips

Make a Pretty Hair Clip in 7 Easy Steps!

Hi all, sorry it's been a little while since I blogged last. There are just so
many wonderful things to make and share but not always enough time to do it all!

All that said, today I had a little time up my sleeve and decided to try my hand
at making my own hair clips. It was a fun and easy task with a pretty hair clip
for my church outfits as a result.

P.S This was not my church outfit!

Step One

First of I went looking for some leftover bits and pieces to make my hair clip out of.

I found a short bit of lace, a thick bobby pin and a pearl bead.

With my supplies I headed to my sewing room for a pair of scissors, a needle and thread.

Step Two

After threading my needle I folded back one end of the lace onto it's self and

stitched it down giving me a nice edge to work with.

Step Three

I then weaved my needle through the bottom of my piece of lace so that I could gather it. (NOTE, If you want to use a piece of fabric, just do big stitches along the bottom).

I kept weaving, checking every now and then if I had gone far enough by pulling on my thread and gathering the lace. When my lace formed a nice flower-like circle when I gathered it, I knew I had gone far enough.

Step Four

Now that my lace piece is gathered I cut off the extra lace leaving enough to fold it back on it's self and stitch it down onto the other lace.

Step Five

Once I stitched down my end I put in a few more stitches to hold everything together.

Whoolah! A pretty flower.

Step Six

While I still had my needle, I slipped my pearl bead onto my thread and stitched in onto my new flower. I also put a few extra stitches in here to make sure my bead does not come loose.

Step Seven

From there I simply stitched my flower onto my bobby pin, making sure it was tightly

stitched and secured on. (NOTE, You could also glue it on)

Well there you have it, A Pretty Hair Accessory that was simple and easy!
